CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS (September 2, 2015) - The Frisco RoughRiders had no answers for Corpus Christi Hooks starter Francis Martes and lost 5-0 on Wednesday night at Whataburger Field. Adam Quintana struck out seven over four scoreless innings of relief in his Double-A debut for Frisco.

Martes (1-0) worked six scoreless innings for the Hooks in his second Double-A start. The 19 year old struck out nine Riders and gave up only five hits to earn the victory in the 99-pitch effort.

Corpus Christi jumped out to an early lead. Danry Vasquez led off with a single and scored on an A.J. Reed single. The Hooks attempted to add more, but Preston Beck fired a strike to home after a fly out to right and Teoscar Hernandez was tagged out at the plate to end the threat.

The Hooks added two unearned runs in the second. Conrad Gregor reached on an error from Luis Marte and crossed home on an RBI-single from Vasquez. Later in the frame, Leo Heras knocked in Chan-Jong Moon to make it a 3-0 game.

Two more runs made it a 5-0 Hooks advantage in the third inning. Jack Mayfield worked a leadoff walk and scored thanks to a double from Jio Mier. Mier later scored on a sacrifice fly from Moon.

Chad Bell (7-13) struggled in his first start since being named the Texas League Pitcher of the Week. The left-hander lasted two innings and allowed five runs (three earned) in the loss.

Quintana relieved Bell and was stellar in his first appearance at the Double-A level. The righty did not allow a run over four innings and struck out seven.

Aaron West and Tyler Brunnemann finished off the combined-shutout, allowing one hit over the final three innings to secure the 5-0 victory for Corpus Christi.

LHP Victor Payano takes the mound in his final start of 2015 for Frisco on Thursday. The Hooks send RHP Michael Feliz in the 7:05 p.m. start. The RoughRiders return home for the final series of the season on Saturday, September 5. The first 2,000 fans at Saturday's game will receive a free RoughRiders football!
