Northwest Arkansas Naturals News Release
TULSA, Okla. - The Northwest Arkansas Naturals (67-67/27-37) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on the host Tulsa Drillers (59-75/29-36) but could not maintain the same offensive prowess throughout the night dropping game two of the four-game set, 5-2 at ONEOK Field on Wednesday night.
Outfielder Jorge Bonifacio kept the first inning alive with a two-out single to right field to set the table for clean-up batter, Alex Liddi. The San Remo, Italy native drilled his team-leading 36th double of the season deep to centerfield to plate Bonifacio from first giving Northwest Arkansas a 1-0 advantage in the opening frame.
The double by Liddi now ties him with Juan Richardson's 2008 total for second-most two-baggers in a single-season trailing Clint Robinson's mark of 41 set back in 2010.
Right-hander Kyle Zimmer (2-5, 2.81) tossed two scoreless innings before giving up a pair of home runs - a solo home run and a two-run shot - as the Drillers gained the advantage at 3-1. Tulsa never looked back plating a single tally in the sixth inning making it a 4-1 game.
Parker Morin drove home Lane Adams after his double started off the seventh inning. Morin smacked a ground-rule double that bounced into the Naturals right-centerfield bullpen to cut into the deficit, 4-2. But Tulsa came back and added their fifth and final run in the last of the inning en route to the 5-2 decision.
Infielder Ramon Torres singled in the third inning to give him at least one hit in nine straight games while Adams finished 2-for-4 stealing two bags, scoring a run and hitting his 21st double of the season.
Northwest Arkansas leans on right-hander Paul Clemens (0-1, 9.31) for game three against right-hander Jose DeLeon (2-6, 3.88) with a 7:05 first pitch form ONEOK Field on Thursday night. The Naturals are 1-0 against DeLeon in four games against him this season scoring nine runs in 17.0 innings against the hurler this season.
Tune in with the Voice of the Naturals, Benjamin Kelly, for the Indigo Sky Casino Pregame Show leading up to first pitch on the flagship station of the Naturals, 92.1-FM the Ticket.
