Stuart Spearheads Shutout Effort

WILMINGTON, Del. - Baron Stuart tossed 6.0 shutout innings in his High-A debut to lead the Hudson Valley Renegades to a 3-0 victory over the Wilmington Blue Rocks on Wednesday night at Frawley Stadium.

Stuart (1-0) finished his outing allowing just four hits, walking two, and striking out five while retiring nine of the last 10 batters.

For the second straight day, Hudson Valley jumped out to an early lead. Ben Cowles and Rafael Flores each walked while Agustin Ramírez reached on an error to load the bases with nobody out in the top of the fourth. Anthony Garcia scored Cowles from third base on a sacrifice fly to hand the 'Gades a 1-0 lead.

Grant Richardson then led off the fifth with a solo home run to right off Brad Lord (1-2) to pad the Renegades' lead to 2-0. The 'Gades outfielder has tallied two home runs during his five-game hitting streak, and is up to 11 on the season.

Cowles extended the Renegades advantage in the eighth with an RBI single to score Spencer Jones, who led off the frame with a walk and stole second base off Matt Merrill.

Mason Vinyard, Harrison Cohen, and Jack Neely each tossed a scoreless inning out of the bullpen to combine for the Renegades' 10th shutout win of the season, with Neely picking up his team-leading sixth save of the season. Hudson Valley has thrown a shutout for the fourth time in their last 10 games.

The Renegades and Blue Rocks continue their six-game series on Thursday night at Frawley Stadium. First pitch is slated for 6:35 p.m. with coverage on the Renegades Baseball Network beginning at 6:15 p.m. LHP Brock Selvidge (1-0, 1.59) will get the ball for the Renegades, while the Blue Rocks will send RHP Kyle Luckham (3-3, 4.33) to the hill.
