April 6, 2019 - Southern League (SL1)
Pensacola Blue Wahoos News Release
The Pensacola Blue Wahoos kicked off their season with a pair of victories over the Mobile BayBears at Hank Aaron Stadium on Friday evening. Starting pitchers Jorge Alcala and Brusdar Graterol both lit up the radar gun, combining to strike out 12 while allowing just one total run, as the Blue Wahoos ran away with game one 7-0 and held on in an extra innings nail biter for a 4-3 win in game two.
Offensively, Jimmy Kerrigan knocked the first homer of the season for Pensacola, a two-run shot in the fourth inning of game one, and followed it with a highlight reel catch crashing into the center field wall in the following inning. Luis Arraez knocked four hits between the two games, finishing 4-7. Taylor Grzelakowski drove in four runs, going 2-7 with a double and a walk.
Alcala (5.0 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 6 K) earned the win in the opening game. Reliever Cody Stashak (1.1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 2 K) was the winner in game two. Dusten Knight (0.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K) closed out game two to earn the save in extras.
The Blue Wahoos (2-0) return to action tomorrow evening at 7:05 against the BayBears (0-2) with Devin Smeltzer scheduled to take the mound.
