
Bird, Mahoney to Jacksonville, Alvarez to Injured List, Mills to Extended Spring Training

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Miami Marlins announced a series of transactions that impacts their Double-A affiliate Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp roster prior to tonight's game against the Jackson Generals at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville at 6:35 p.m.
Infielder Eddy Alvarez has been placed on Jacksonville's injured list. Alvarez played in one game for Jacksonville, going 1-for-3 at the plate.
In a corresponding move, outfielder Corey Bird has been transferred from High-A Jupiter to Jacksonville. Bird has played in two games for the Hammerheads, hitting .167 (1-for-6) to begin the year. Bird, 23, is a native of Charleston, West Virginia, and was originally selected by the Marlins in the seventh round of the 2016 draft out of Marshall University. This is the first call-up to the Double-A level of Bird's career.
Additionally, left-handed starting pitcher McKenzie Mills has been transferred from Jacksonville to Marlins extended spring training.
In a corresponding move, right-handed pitcher Kolton Mahoney has been transferred from Marlins extended spring training to Jacksonville. Mahoney pitched in 29 games and made 11 starts for Jacksonville in 2018, going 3-9 with a 4.23 ERA with a pair of saves.
The Jumbo Shrimp roster stands at 25 active players, and a revised roster is attached.
Jacksonville hosts the Generals in Saturday's 6:35 p.m. contest from the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville. RHP Dustin Beggs (0-0, 0.00 ERA) makes the start for the Jumbo Shrimp against Jackson RHP Bo Takahashi (0-0, 0.00 ERA). The first 2,000 fans through the gates of Saturday's game receive a Jumbo Shrimp T-shirt designed by fan Toni Pepe and presented by 121 Financial and Atlantic Self Storage. Baseball Registers to Vote Night presented by the Duval County Supervisor of Elections will help fans get information on when and where to vote, as well as registration deadlines, from the Duval County Supervisor of Elections. The night will be capped with Saturday Night Fireworks presented by 121 Financial and Atlantic Self Storage.
