Gwinnett Stripers News Release
NORFOLK, Va. - Allan Winans delivered his first quality start of the season for the Gwinnett Stripers (12-14) with 7.0 innings of two-run baseball, but those runs were enough to hand him the loss as the Norfolk Tides (12-15) won 2-0 on Sunday afternoon at Harbor Park. Three straight losses gave the Stripers a 3-3 split of the series.
Decisive Plays: Winans and rehabbing Norfolk left-hander John Means went toe-to-toe for three scoreless innings before the Tides broke through on Coby Mayo's solo home run leading off the fourth. In the seventh, Maverick Handley added a solo homer to make it 2-0. The Stripers had just two hits on the day, a single from Phillip Evans in the fifth and a double from J.P. Martinez in the ninth.
Key Contributors: Winans (L, 1-2) lost despite scattering six hits over 7.0 innings, walking one, and striking out four. Means (W, 1-2) pitched 7.0 one-hit frames, and combined with Tucker Davidson (H, 2) and Bryan Baker (S, 1) on a two-hit shutout.
Noteworthy: The game marked Gwinnett's first shutout loss this season. Forrest Wall drew a walk in the first inning to extend his on-base streak to 22 consecutive games dating back to July 7, 2023.
Next Game (Tuesday, April 30): Gwinnett vs. Durham, 11:05 a.m. ET at Coolray Field. Broadcast: 10:50 a.m. ET on MyCountry993.com and Bally Live. Area schools will be in attendance for the matinee game on the second Education Day of the season.
