Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Despite trailing for most of the game, the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp rode a four-run eighth inning to a 5-3 win over the Memphis Redbirds Sunday afternoon.
Trailing 3-1 in the top of the eighth inning, Jacksonville (16-11) got the bats going against Memphis (12-14) reliever Victor Santos (L, 1-4). Victor Mesa Jr. started the inning off with a base hit and went to second on a groundout from Javier Sanoja. Troy Johnston smacked a double, scoring Mesa Jr. from second drawing the Jumbo Shrimp to within one, 3-2. Jonah Bride drove in Johnston with a triple to tie the game at three. Tristan Gray gave Jacksonville the final lead of the game with a sac fly for a 4-3 advantage. Jhonny Pereda (1) gave the Jumbo Shrimp some insurance with a solo home run pushing the lead up to 5-3.
After three scoreless frames, Jacksonville broke the scoreless game in the top of the fourth. Bride (7) led off the inning with a solo home run off Redbirds starter Michael McGreevy.
Memphis answered right away in the bottom of the fourth. Luken Baker (5) crushed a solo home run off Jumbo Shrimp hurler Patrick Monteverde tying the game at one. Three batters later, Jared Young (4) blasted his second home run in as many days putting the Redbirds ahead, 2-1.
Memphis added one more run in the bottom of the seventh. With two outs, Victor Scott doubled and scored on a base hit from Jordan Walker to give the Redbirds a 3-1 advantage.
Following Monday's off day, Jacksonville returns home Tuesday for a 7:05 p.m. contest that marks a six-game series with the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders. Coverage begins at 6:50 p.m. on Bally Live, MLB.tv, MiLB.tv, ESPN 690 AM and espn690.com.
