Norfolk Tides News Release
NORFOLK, Va - The Norfolk Tides (12-15) shutout the Gwinnett Stripers (12-14), 2-0, on Friday at Harbor Park. John Means made a rehab start for Norfolk and was stellar, throwing 7.0 scoreless innings. He retired 21 of 23 batters faced, giving up one hit and one walk while striking out eight hitters in the win.
The Tides did not score until the fourth inning when Coby Mayo hit a solo home run that bounced off the top of the center field gate and over the fence. It was his eighth home run of the season.
Norfolk doubled their score when Maverick Handley launched his own home run over the left field fence, making it a 2-0 game. Handley's homer was his second of the year.
The bullpen for the Tides did their job following Means. Tucker Davidson tossed a 1-2-3 fifth inning, followed by Bryan Baker earning his first save of the season. After losing the first three games of the series, the Tides have won three in a row to salvage a series split.
After a league off day on Monday, the Tides start a two-week road trip in Tennessee. On Tuesday, they start a six-game series in Nashville, followed by another six-game series at Memphis the week after. The Tides have not announced their probables.
