Asheville Tourists News Release

ASHEVILLE - The weather on Sunday afternoon at McCormick Field was perfect for a baseball game. Clear skies, comfortable temperatures, and a light breeze. Unfortunately, it was the Greenville Drive who took advantage of the perfect conditions and handed the Asheville Tourists a 9-3 loss.

Greenville pounded out 15 hits in the win while the Tourists were limited to only five. The first pitch of the ballgame was hit out of the ballpark by Kervin Suarez; who has now hit four of his five Home Runs on the year against the Tourists.

The Drive added an unearned run later in the inning; however, it did not take long for the Tourists to respond. In the bottom of the second Casey Golden and Taylor Snyder each drew walks. Nic Motley stepped up and tied the game with a two-run double down the left field line.

Asheville's starting pitcher, Will Gaddis, did not return to the mound in the top of the third. Asheville's bullpen had a hard time against the Drive as the visitors scored the games' next six runs.

Todd Czinege blasted a solo Home Run to centerfield in the seventh inning but Greenville answered with a run in the top of the eighth. Czinege has now homered in back-to-back games.

The Tourists' five-game winning streak came to an end with the loss. It is also their first defeat at home since the All-Star break. Asheville and Greenville will play the series rubber match on Monday night with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05pm.
