Double Take for Augusta

Rome, GA: The Augusta GreenJackets, South Atlantic League affiliate of San Francisco Giants, won both of their games in the doubleheader with the Rome Braves on Sunday Afternoon. In game one, the GreenJackets won 5-3 and then took game two by a score of 4-0.

In game one, Garrett Cave set the tone early by overpowering the Braves. Cave went five innings, only giving up one hit, while striking out five Braves. Cave earned his fifth win of the season.

At the plate for the GreenJackets, Orlando Garcia came ready to play going 3-4 with a home run. He batted in three of the five runs scored by Augusta. In the top of the fifth inning, a two-out single from Trevor Abrams scored two more runs to put the GreenJackets up 5-1. They would hold onto the lead and win 5-3.

In game two, a pitchers' duel broke out between John Gavin for Augusta and Hayden Deal for Rome. John Gavin once again continued to dominate the Braves by throwing a complete game. He went seven innings, only allowing two hits and earning his third win of the season. In his three previous starts against Rome, Gavin has gone 19 innings, only allowing five hits to the Braves.

In the final inning with the score tied at zero, the GreenJackets got the bases loaded with two-outs. Shane Matheny stepped up to the plate and hit a clutch two-run single to give the GreenJackets the lead. They would not look back taking game two by the score of 4-0.

Augusta will be back in action tomorrow for the finale of the series in Rome. First pitch will be at 7:05 pm.

After the six game road trip, the GreenJackets will be at home for a seven game homestand. On July11th against the Lexington Legends, we will have 9 Innings of Networking! Then on the 12th, The CSRA's Biggest Sock Hop!
