ABOUT LAST GAME: Columbia dropped the series opener to Charleston on Saturday night, 6-5. The Fireflies at one point trailed by five runs, but Jeremy Vasquez's heroics aided the club's comeback bid. The lefty slugger became the second Firefly this season to homer twice in one game.

2 IS BETTER THAN 1: Vasquez blasted a three-run homer in the sixth and then a solo shot in the eighth. Quinn Brodey (April 18 @ Greenville) is the only other Firefly in 2018 to homer twice in one game.

ONE IS THE LONELIEST NUMBER: Ten of the 15 games this season between Columbia and Charleston have been decided by a single run. In fact, the 15 games have been decided by 24 total runs.

SCOOTER: Scott Manea has reached base safely 10 times over his last five games. The 22-year-old has four doubles, a home run, eight RBIs, and three walks during this span and is hitting .353.

HERE WE GO AGAIN: Blake Tiberi became the fourth Firefly this season to tally an on-base streak of 15 games or longer:

LONGEST ON-BASE STREAKS, 2018 FIREFLIES:

1. Jeremy Vasquez, 29* April 5-May 6

2. Raphael Gladu, 28 May 2-June 9

3. Blake Tiberi, 19 June 13-July 6

4. Scott Manea, 16 April 21-May 12

*franchise and 2018 SAL record

Columbia as a team leads the league in walks (282) and has struck out (610) the fewest times.

THE FUTURE: Andres Gimenez was select to participate in the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game at Nationals Park on July 15. The former Firefly will play for the World Team in a game that features the top Minor League prospects. Gimenez is currently listed as the Mets no. 1-ranked prospect, according to MLB.com. Here's what the 19-year-old did with Columbia in 2017:

- .265 average, 9 doubles, 4 home runs, 14 stolen bases (92 games)

TEXT TO GIVE: Columbia's specialty stars and stripes jerseys worn by the players on Wednesday were auctioned off to fans with 100% of the proceeds benefitting South Carolina's veterans in need through RIP Medical Debt. More than $8,000 was raised from the jersey auction alone. The goal is to raise $12,500 and as a result nearly $800,000 of South Carolina's veteran's medical debt will be erased. The initiative is made possible through RIP Medical Debt and everyone can still text to donate so the Fireflies' goal can be reached: text Fireflies to 50155 and wait for instructions. The text to give ends July 9. The campaign will continue until we raise the money.
