Legends Fall in Extras to Grasshoppers 11-10

WHITAKER BANK BALLPARK (Lexington, KY) - Despite an early lead, the Lexington Legends fell to the Greensboro Grasshoppers 11-10 in 11 innings. The Legends now drop to 44-41 overall and the Grasshoppers improve to 43-43.

The Legends plated their first runs of the game in the bottom of the second. Sebastian Rivero lined a single to left field then was joined on the base path by Cal Jones who reached on a throwing error by Greensboro's third baseman, Micah Brown. Manny Olloque then blasted his first homer of the season, a three-run homer to left field to put Lexington up 3-0.

In the top of the third, solo homers by Garvis Lara and Rodrigo Ayarza cut into the Legends lead, 3-2.

Lexington would then go on to plate five runs in the bottom of the fifth. Matt Morales led off with a ground rule double down the third base side then scored on an RBI double by Brewer Hicklen. Seuly Matias then smacked his 26th home run of the season, scoring two more runs. With the bases empty, Dennicher Carrasco drew a walk then the very next batter, Rivero, hit a two-run home run extending the Legends' lead to 8-2.

Greenboro then answered in the top of the eighth. Three-straight singles by Jose Devers, Lara and Tristain Pompey led off the inning, with Devers scoring. Isael Soto then hit a three-run homer to right field, emptying the bases. Micah Brown then lined a double down the left field line then scored on an RBI single by Michael Hernandez. After the eighth, the Legends lead had dwindled to one run, 8-7.

In the top of the ninth for Greensboro, Devers reached on a fielding error by Lexington's shortstop Matt Morales then moved to second on a groundout by Lara. Devers then advanced to third on a wild pitch and tied the game at eight with a sacrifice fly Soto.

In the tenth, Ricardo Cespedes was placed at second as the Pace of Play Runner and scored on an RBI double by Hernandez. With Hernandez at second, he moved to third on a single by Ayarza and both runners scored on a groundout by Devers, putting the Grasshoppers on top for the first time in the game, 10-8.

The Legends answered in the bottom of the tenth. Jones was placed on second as the Pace of Play Runner and moved to third on a single by Ricky Aracena. Morales then smacked an RBI single to right field, scoring Jones and moving Aracena to third. Hicklen then popped up a sacrifice fly to centerfield bringing home Aracena, and the game was tied, 10-10.

In the top of the eleventh, Lara was the pace of play runner for the Grasshoppers. An RBI single by Soto brought him home, and Greensboro was able to hold on to the 11-10 lead.

Sean Guenther was awarded the win for Greensboro, tossing 1.1 perfect innings. Garrett Suchey was given the loss, throwing 1.0 inning allowing one run on two hits while striking out two. Yefri Del Rosario started for the Legends and tossed a career high 6.0 innings while striking out a career high eight batters.

The same two teams meet tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. at Whitaker Bank Ballpark for the rubber match. Lexington will send RHP Carlos Hernandez (5-3, 3.76 ERA) to face LHP Daniel Castano (2-0, 2.08 ERA) for Greensboro.
