Las Vegas, NV. - Dan Straily allowed two runs with eight strikeouts in six innings, but the River Cats fell to the Las Vegas 51s by a score of 11-1 on Tuesday night at Cashman Field.

Las Vegas got the scoring started early, plating one in the second and one in the fourth. Sacramento cut the deficit in half with a Chris Carter RBI-double. The 51s carried a 2-1 lead into the seventh inning, then the scoring outburst began.

In his first appearance with the River Cats, righty Nate Long relinquished five runs in one inning pitched and Fautino De Los Santos gave up four runs in 0.2 innings, giving the 51s an 11-1 lead.

Due to the fact that the River Cats bullpen had pitched 8.1 innings on Monday, and that they had given up nine runs in 1.2 innings, infielder Luke Hughes took the mound for the first time in his career since 2007, getting the only batter he faced to fly out to right field.

The River Cats made some noise in the bottom of the ninth, highlighted by a Hughes two-run home run, but they couldn't overcome the 10-run lead, ultimately falling 11-4. Hughes is the only player in River Cats history to pitch and hit a home run in the same game.

Josh Donaldson, who moved from designated hitter to second base when Hughes came in to pitch, went 2-for-4 and is now hitting .458 with the Cats. Hughes went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBIs and he pitched 0.1 scoreless innings. Straily suffered the loss, and is now 1-1 with a 1.38 ERA in two starts with Sacramento this season.

The River Cats return home on Wednesday night for Bark in the Ballpark at Raley Field. RHP Bruce Billings (4-1, 2.86 ERA) will start opposite Salt Lake lefty Greg Smith (2-5, 3.74 ERA).
