Iowa Barnstormers News Release

DES MOINES -- A rocking and jam-packed crowd of 10,454 at Wellmark Blue Cross Blue Shield Field saw the Iowa Barnstormers even their record to 2-2 with a dominating 47-24 win over non-division opponent Stockton Lightning.

On the night the ‘Stormers christened their new home field as Wellmark Blue Cross Blue Shield Field, it was only fitting that the visiting Lightning left central Iowa singing the blues.

The ‘Stormers got the rocking crowd on their feet from the start as they took the opening drive and immediately marched down field for a score as QB Joe Brannen took it in from the one yard line.

Brannen then hooked up with veteran wideout Robert Kilow early in the second quarter on a 33-yard touchdown strike, which brought the score to 13-0 after a Jeff Glas extra point. Following a quick Stockton score, the ‘Stormers answered quickly as Kilow busted a seam through the Lightning coverage, taking the onsuing kick 57-yards for a Barnstormers touchdown. Stockton closed the gap to 20-14 at the half on Peter Tuialuuluu's second one yard TD run of the game.

The momentum swung back the Barnstormers way late in the third quarter. On his first play after replacing, all af2 performer Tanner Varner, who left with a hamstring injury, WR/DB Tim Dodge picked off a Chad Elliott pass, taking it 35-yards for a score.

The Lightning responded with back-up QB hitting Donva Louder on a nine-yard touchdown pass over Dodge in the back of the endzone, which cut the Lightning deficit to three, 27-27. That was as close as Stockton would get as the ‘Stormers answered with a Terrance Freeney two-yard TD run and a Bryan Pray five-yard TD reception off the nets off the net. Rookie FB and former Bondurant-Farrar prep, Justin Butler capped the ‘Stormers scoring, taking a Brannen hand-off in from the two, which increased the Barnstormers lead to 47-24.
