Mahoning Valley Thunder News Release
Albany, N.Y. - Mahoning Valley suffered their fourth straight defeat, falling to Albany by a score of 61-49. Mahoning Valley was unable to keep pace with the Conquest offense that started and finished strong. Albany put 20 points on the board in the opening quarter and rallied for 27 points in the final stanza, on their way to their third straight victory. The Albany win marks the first time the Conquest has defeated Mahoning Valley in the history of the series. The Thunder drops to 1-4 on the season, Albany improves to 3-1.
Conquest Quarterback Dan Cole started the game throwing for scores on his first three pass attempts. Cole finished the game 15 of 32 for 243 yards and six touchdowns. Cole's main target was Wide Receiver Antwun Williams who torched the Thunder defense for six catches on his way to 163 yards and four touchdown grabs. Mahoning Valley Quarterback Josh Swogger, making his fourth start of the season, completed 15 of 25 passes for 202 yards and three touchdowns. Swogger was also intercepted once and lost two fumbles. The Thunder offense received a gutsy performance from veteran Tim Murphy. Injuries forced the reserve Fullback into the starting lineup as a Wide Receiver and he responded in a big way. Murphy hauled in seven receptions for 94 yards and a touchdown. The second year af2 player also contributed three rushes for 52 yards and two more scores. Mahoning Valley returns home Monday, May 5th to host Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in the first Monday night game in team history.
