Texas Copperheads News Release

Boise, ID- Turnovers and execution problems again plagued Texas as the Copperheads fell to the Boise Burn 41-14 in front of a sell out crowd of 5080 at Qwest Arena. On the evening, Texas would turn the ball over twice on downs, throw three interceptions, lose two fumbles, give up a safety, have a FG blocked, miss another and give up a TD due to a live ball off the net on a Boise kick off.

The Copperheads got off to a fast start with a long strike from Rudy Carlton to Robert Gill. Gill appeared to be headed for the end zone but was stripped of the ball before he could cross the Boise goal line.

Three plays later Schutt Offensive Player of the Game George Williams scored the first of his three TD's with a 4 yard run. The point after was missed but Boise was ahead to stay at 6-0.

Williams scored again late in the the 1st quarter on a 15 yard pass from Burn QB Royal Gill. Gill found Williams again for the two point conversion to close out scoring in the 1st quarter at 14-0 in favor of the Burn.

Boise DL Chris Solomona sacked Carlton in the end zone for a safety at the 3:36 mark of the 2nd quarter to push Boise's lead to 16-0. Boise's final score of the 1st half came on a Gill to Casey Allen 17 yard TD pass. The Burn lead at halftime 22-0.

The Burn scored the only points of the third quarter on a 7 yard Gill to Williams strike. After three quarters, Boise lead 29-0.

Texas opened fourth quarter scoring with a 51 yard interception return by Darius Pettigrew. Pettigrew picked off DeRonn Finley who attempted a half back pass into the Texas end zone on the play. Pettigrew stepped in front of the intended receiver and sprinted goal line to goal line for the score.

Pettigrew would lead the Copperheads defensive effort with three interceptions on the evening. Pettigrew's first interception came late in the 2nd quarter when he returned the ball to the Boise 7 yard line before being pushed out of bounds. The 51 yard TD return in the 4th quarter was his second pick of the night. Pettigrew would grab his third interception of the evening on the next Boise series but would leave the game as the result of an injury caused by an unintentional late hit.

Texas scored its final TD of the evening on a 4 yard pass from Carlton to LB/FB Keith Holden. With Texas closing the gap to 29-14, Boise shut the door with a 9 yard TD toss from B.J. Rhode to Williams. Williams' third TD of the night was immediately followed by a net recovery for a Boise TD on the ensuing kick off. The 41-14 victory advanced Boise's record to 3-1 while Texas fell to 0-5.
