Two-Way Standout Watson Named to af2 All-Ironman Team

Houston, TX - Texas Copperheads DB/WR Armar Watson has been named to the af2's All-Ironman Team, the League office announced today. This is the first time in the af2's nine-year history that the league has given special recognition to its top two-way players. In total, the league recognized 15 players for their two-way excellence.

Watson, an af2 rookie from Duquesne, contributed in all three phases of the game for Texas in 2008.

Offensively, Watson rushed 11 times for 25 yards and 6 TDs as well as catching 42 passes for 533 yards and 8 scores.

Defensively, Watson recorded 51 tackles (47 solo, 8 assists), intercepted 4 passes (25 return yards and 1 TD), recovered 3 fumbles (one returned 48 yards for a TD), and broke up 12 passes.

On special teams Watson returned 72 kickoffs (ranked 3rd in af2) for 1408 yards (ranked 6th in af2) and 1 TD (58 yards). Watson also returned 3 missed FG attempts for 59 yards.

Overall, Watson accounted for 2050 all purpose yards and 102 points (17 TDs) in 2008.

During the 2008 season Watson was voted "Schutt Offensive Player of the Game" once (week 6 vs. Arkansas), "ADT Defensive Player of the Game" once (week 6 vs. Arkansas) and "JLS Ironman of the Game" four times (week 6 vs. Arkansas, week 7 vs. Corpus Christi, week 8 vs. Austin, week 9 vs. Lubbock). Watson also was awarded with "Cutter's Catch of the Game" honors twice (week 6 vs. Arkansas, week 9 vs. Lubbock) during the season.

The highlight of Watson's season was week 6 when he was recognized as the af2 Ironman of the week for his performance against Arkansas. On the evening Watson scored 4 TDs (1 rushing, 2 receiving, 1 interception return), accounted for 163 all purpose yards (7 catches for 90 yards, 1 rush for 2 yards, 3 kick returns for 52 yards, 2 interception returns for 19 yards), recorded two interceptions, broke up three passes and lead the team with 9.5 tackles. For his efforts, the media voted Watson "Schutt Offensive Player of the Game", "ADT Defensive Player of the Game" and "JLS Ironman of the Game". Watson was also recognized with the "Cutter's Catch of the Game" when he made a juggling interception that resulted in a 19 yard TD return. Watson's efforts led Texas to a 37-30 win.
