Long Island Ducks News Release
(Central Islip, N.Y., July 27, 2011) - The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Lancaster Barnstormers 8-7 on Thursday night in the second game of a three-game series at Bethpage Ballpark.
Lancaster plated the game's first run on a RBI single to right by Adam Calderone in the first off Ducks' starter Joselo Diaz. The Ducks tied it in the second on Kraig Binick's two-out RBI double to left off Barnstormers' starter Ross Peeples.
A four-spot in the third inning for the `Stormers put the visitors ahead 5-1. A solo homer by Calderone and RBI singles from Aaron Herr and J.C. Holt highlighted the inning. However, the Ducks rallied back for a run in the third, two in the fourth, and two more in fifth to take their first lead of the game at 6-5. RBI singles by Binick and Dan Lyons, a sac fly from J.R. House, and two run-scoring errors did the damage.
The lead lasted until the seventh when Lancaster plated three runs to jump back in front for good. RBI singles from Matt Watson and Herr and a run-scoring fielder's choice off the bat of Holt accounted for the scoring.
Neither starter factored in the decision. Yunior Novoa (2-2) picked up the win with two innings of relief, allowing a run on one hit. Dave Williams (0-1) suffered the loss after allowing three runs in one inning of work. Jonah Bayliss earned his 10th save with a scoreless ninth.
Lyons had three hits to lead the Ducks while Binick added two hits and two RBI.
