York Snaps Bridgeport Winning Streak

(Bridgeport, Conn. - July 28, 2011) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (8-4, 40-35) had a seven-game winning streak snapped by the York Revolution (8-6, 44-33) at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Thursday. Bridgeport fell by a score of 12-4.

Esteban Yan (0-1) struggled as the righthanded starter allowed six runs in five-and-one-third innings of work. Kyle Zaleski, Matt Smith, and Chris Rivera completed the rest of the game for the losing side.

Corey Thurman (8-3) allowed two runs in five-and-a-third innings to pick up the win for the Revolution

York started the scoring in the second inning. James Shanks and Chris Nowak singled to establish runners at first and second. After an out had been recorded, Eric Eymann scorched a ground-rule double to leftcenter. One of four hits on the night for the shortstop gave the road team a 1-0 lead. A ground out to second pushed Nowak across to put the Revolution up by two.

The road team scored another in the fourth. Nowak began the rally with a single. With one out, Eric Eymann singled to right and was sent to third on a base hit to right. Liu Rodriguez followed with a sacrifice fly to rightcenter.

With a 3-0 lead, the Revolution bats continued to add insurance runs in the fifth. Chris Walker doubled to right. After two outs had been recorded, Nowak hit his second homer in as many nights. His shot down the left field line gave put York up by five. The starting first baseman went 3-4 and scored three times.

York added a run in the sixth before the Bluefish produced three in the same inning; Bridgeport could not make the comeback because the home team allowed six unanswered runs to Revolution bats. The Bluefish pushed a run across in the ninth to close the scoring.

One positive for the Bluefish was Luis Lopez. With a hit on Thursday, the third baseman is six shy of 2,000 for his minor league career.

Bridgeport finishes a three game series against the York Revolution on Friday at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard. First pitch is set for 7-:05. The gates open at 6:05. Race Pass giveaway is presented by Grand Prix, New York.
