The Storm picked up four of a possible six points this past weekend with a 3-1 loss to the Oshawa Generals on Thursday, a come from behind 3-2 shootout win on Saturday against the Plymouth Whalers and a 3-0 win over the OHL's top team, the Barrie Colts on Sunday. On Thursday night against the Oshawa Generals Jamie Arniel scored his 19th goal of the season and was named the second star of the game scoring the only Guelph goal of the night. Saturday night the Storm traveled to Plymouth to take on the Whalers recording their first shootout win of the season. Jamie Arniel and Drew Doughty each scored in the third period to tie the game, forcing it into overtime. Thomas McCollum was perfect in the shootout while Anthony Nigro and Tyler Melancon scored for the Storm giving them a 3-2 win over the Whalers. The Storm played a solid defensive game on Sunday holding the top OHL team's offense off the scoreboard as McCollum recorded his second shutout of the year making 38 saves. With four points, the Storm improved their record to 18-15-1-4 and now sit fourth in the Midwest Division still one point behind the third placed Owen Sound Attack.

Guelph Storm Grand & Toy Player of the Week (Week ending December 31st)

Thomas McCollum-The rookie netminder won two of three starts during the week with a goals against average of 1.30 and a save percentage of 0.957. McCollum also notched his second shutout of the season in a 3-0 white wash of the OHL's top team, the Barrie Colts on Sunday night. The Sanborn, New York native also collected an assist on the winning goal in Sunday's road win.

Friday January 5th: Toronto St. Michael's Majors at Guelph Storm, 7:30 pm

Friday night the Toronto St. Michael's Majors make their first and only visit to the GSEC this season. The only other match-up between these two clubs was back on December 10th when the Majors beat the Storm 5-3 on home ice. Friday's game marks the last time these two teams will face each other this season. The Majors currently have 30 points and sit in fifth place in the Central Division, two points behind the Brampton Battalion.

Storm Set to Honour Remarkable Achievement by Voice of Team

The Guelph Storm will honour Larry Mellott, their long-time radio voice on Friday night prior to their home game. On Sunday night in Barrie, Larry Mellott called his 1,000th Guelph Storm game.

The voice of the Storm on 1460 CJOY, Larry has enjoyed a long and successful broadcasting career that includes every Guelph Storm regular season and post-season game since the beginning of the 1994-95 season. Mellott's Storm experience also includes Memorial Cups in 1996 (Peterborough), 1998 (Spokane), 2002 (Guelph) and 2004 (Kelowna).

On behalf of the Storm, 1460 CJOY and their fans, the hockey club will honour Larry before Friday night's home game versus the Toronto St. Michael's Majors.

Storm Trackers Education Award

Storm Trackers President Bill Scott and Storm Education Consultant Donna Rawbone will present a $100.00 cheque to a deserving Guelph Storm player on Friday night during the first intermission of the match-up versus the Toronto St. Michael's Majors. Storm players are graded in seven categories to compete for the awards. The awards are presented each month alternating between secondary school players and players attending post -secondary institutions.

Recovery Force Three Star Player of the Month

Thomas McCollum is the Recovery Force Three Star Player of the Month for December.

The Sanborn, New York native wrapped up the honour with a first star effort in Sunday night's 3-0 shutout win over the Barrie Colts. In ten December appearances, McCollum had a 5-3-1 record with a 2.34 goals against average and 0.916 save percentage. Signed by the Storm this summer as an undrafted free agent, the 17 year old netminder finished the month with eight Recovery Force Three Star points.

Recovery Force will present McCollum with a $50 cheque during the first intermission of the Storm's next home game on Friday, January 5th versus the Toronto St. Michael's Majors.

Sunday January 7th: Kingston Frontenacs at Guelph Storm, 3:00 pm

On Sunday afternoon the Kingston Frontenacs visit the GSEC for the first and last time this season. The only other match-up between these two teams took place on October 13th when the Storm defeated the Frontenacs in front of their home crowd 6-3. Jamie Arniel had two goals and Tyler Melancon recorded two helpers in the contest. Sunday's game marks the last time these two teams will face each other this season. The Frontenacs currently have 35 points and sit fourth in the East Division, one point behind the Ottawa 67's.

Goalie Mask Contest Winners are Recognized

On Sunday afternoon, fourteen year old Alora Griffiths of Rockwood and ten year old Elijah Ridder of Guelph will be recognized as the co-winners of the Guelph Tribune "Design a Storm Goalie Mask Contest". These two Grand Prize winners will be introduced in an on-ice presentation prior to the game.

During the on-ice presentation, the winners will receive:

A custom painted goalie mask featuring their winning design signed by the Guelph Storm Hockey Club.

A second version of the winning design will be created and presented to a Guelph Storm

goaltender. The masks will be worn by the Storm goaltenders for the remainder of the 2006/07 season

Biltmore 'Hat Trick' Presentation

Mike McLean scored three goals in the Storm's 6-3 road win over the London Knights on Saturday December 16th. Guelph's Biltmore Hat Company will present Mike with a Biltmore Hat during the first intermission of Sunday's game in an on-ice presentation to honour the achievement.

Ryan Parent and Team Canada Advance to the Finals

Guelph Storm defenceman Ryan Parent and Team Canada wrapped up the semi-finals of the 2007 World Junior Hockey Championship with a 2-1 shootout win over the United States on Wednesday. Parent is trying to become the second Storm player to capture a pair of gold medals at the Junior Championship, joining Fedor Tyutin who won gold in 2002 and 2003. Canada, winner of the last two titles, will meet Team Russia in Friday's championship game.

Moncton Wildcats defenceman Luc Bourdon scored a power-play goal at 12:19 of the third period to deadlock the game 1-1 and force it into overtime. Canadian goaltender Corey Price, of the Tri-City Americans, was outstanding in overtime as he stopped all 12 shots he faced. He turned away 34 of 35 shots in regulation and overtime, while U.S. counterpart Jeff Frazee made 26 saves on 27 shots before the shootout. In the shootout, Jonathan Toews of the University of North Dakota scored three times, including the winning goal. Canadian goaltender Carey Price stopped U.S. forward Peter Mueller after Toews' final goal to end the shootout 5-4 in fav our of the defending champions.
