
Maunu Returns to Saginaw After Stints in AHL and ECHL

(Saginaw, MI) Defenseman Mitch Maunu has returned to the Saginaw Spirit after much anticipation and public speculation. Maunu began the 2006-07 season with the AHL Norfolk Admirals and the ECHL Toledo Storm.
"We are thrilled to have Mitch return to the Spirit and the Ontario Hockey League," stated Spirit General Manager and Head Coach Bob Mancini, "His competitive nature, experience and leadership will make a great impact on our team."
The Spirit acquired Maunu this past summer as part of a trade with the Windsor Spitfires. Maunu spent four seasons with the Spitfires, notching 30 goals, 74 assists and 292 PIM from 2002-06. The Thunder Bay, ON native was selected by the Chicago Blackhawks in the fourth round, 120th overall in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft. Maunu signed an AHL Standard Player Contract last August with the Norfolk Admirals. He played nine games with the Admirals and 19 games with the ECHL Toledo Storm, where he recorded 5 assist. Both the Admirals and the Storm are affiliates of the Chicago Blackhawks.
