Storm Stop Sixers Win Streak

Lake Elsinore, CA - The Lake Elsinore Storm stopped the Inland Empire 66ers win-streak at four games with a 4-2 win at The Diamond on Tuesday. The loss dropped the Sixers to 2-6 against Lake Elsinore this season and 7-36 versus the Southern Division of the Cal League.

The Storm (36-40, 4-2) sent Padres' righty Andrew Cashner to the mound to start the game on a Major League Rehab start. Cashner, on the disabled list with a neck-strain, tossed three innings of two hit, scoreless work with a strikeout and no walks. He finished with 38 pitches, 25 for strikes. The Sixers Hutton Moyer tagged a double against Cashner in the first, the lone extra-base hit the Sixers would get in the game.

Inland Empire (27-49, 4-2) scored first in the fifth on a fielder's choice RBI from Taylor Ward. The Storm answered in the bottom of the frame against IE starter Jake Jewell. The righty from Norman, OK got a no-decision after tossing 5.2 innings allowing two runs on six with three walks and three Ks. The Sixers trailed 2-1 heading into the seventh but were able to tie the game when Ayendy Perez singled, and stole second to move into scoring position. The Azua, DR native then stole third, his 13th of the year and scored when Storm catcher AJ Kennedy's attempt to cut him down sailed into left for a throwing error.

The Storm got two runs in the bottom of the inning against Sixers reliever Jordan Piche (2-4) when Josh VanMeter notched a RBI single and Franmil Reyes added a sac fly to make it 4-2. Walker Lockett (2-3) earned the win for the Storm giving the club four innings allowing two runs, one earned. Phil Maton picked up his third save of the year with a scoreless ninth. The 66ers were 0-for-11 with runners in scoring positon.
