Storm closing in on Anderson Cup
March 16, 2004 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Tri-City Storm News Release
KEARNEY â The Tri-City Storm of the United States Hockey League is close to capturing the team's first regular season title and bringing the Anderson Cup, which goes to the regular season points champion, to Kearney.
The Storm, which has been in first place during most of the 2003-2004 season, has their magic number down to four. River City and Sioux City are the only other teams still in the running for the Anderson Cup.
On Friday night the Storm hosts Lincoln at 7:05 p.m. Three things have to happen for the Storm to clinch the Anderson Cup that night. First, the Storm needs to defeat the Lincoln Stars. Secondly, Sioux City needs to lose in regulation either Wednesday versus Des Moines or Friday against Danville. Finally, River City must lose in regulation to Des Moines on Friday.
Since there is the possibility of Tri-City clinching the Anderson Cup on Friday the Cup must be in Kearney for the game. Friday's game against Lincoln is sold out.
