Black Hawks Thomas Commits to Denver

The Waterloo Black Hawks have announced today that defenseman Andrew Thomas has committed to Denver University. Thomas will begin play for the Pioneers next season.

"This is a great opportunity for Andrew," said Black Hawks head coach and general manager P.K. O'Handley. "He has worked hard to improve as a player, and will be a good fit for the Denver program."

Thomas is currently in his first season with the Black Hawks. He has appeared in 53 games for the Hawks and has five points on a goal and four assists, to go along with 86 penalty minutes. Prior to Waterloo Thomas played with the New Hampshire Junior Monarchs of the Eastern Junior Hockey League. With the Junior Monarchs he was an All EJHL All-Star in 2002-03.

Thomas will join a Pioneer's squad that finished tied for 4th in the WCHA this season with a 13-10-5 mark in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association and 23-12-5 overall.

Thomas is the eighth member of the 2003-04 Black Hawks to make a college commitment, joining Joel Hanson (Minnesota State University), Jake Schwan (Union University), Matt Fornataro (New Hampshire), Mike Radja (New Hampshire), Peter MacArthur (Boston University), Joe Pavelski (Wisconsin) and Kevin Regan (New Hampshire).
