Effinger and Fox commit to Division I programs

St. Louis Heartland Eagles News Release


The Heartland Eagles of the United States Hockey League (USHL) have committed their third and fourth Division I players in franchise history and this season as Belleville, Illinois native Charlie Effinger and St. Louis native Jordan Fox have signed with Miami University of Ohio and Merrimack University respectively beginning in 2004-05.

Effinger, 18, is in his first season with the Heartland Eagles and is currently 6-14-1 with a 3.17 GAA and a .922 save percentage. His save percentage is second in the USHL and is just .005 behind the league leader, Dwight LaBrosse of the Des Moines Buccaneers. The 6-1 165 lb netminder previously played with the St. Louis AAA Blues Midget Major Club and SLU High.

Fox, 19, is in his first season in the USHL and his second season of Junior A hockey. He was acquired in a trade from the Sioux Falls Stampede of the USHL. The 5-10, 200 lb forward is an alternate captain and has 3 goals and 14 assists in 42 games this season. He spent the 2002-03 season with the Springfield Spirit of the North American Hockey League (NAHL).

The Heartland Eagles return to the ice on Friday March 19th at the Edge Ice Rink against the Chicago Steel. The Eagles host Sioux City at the Summit Center in Chesterfield, Missouri on Saturday March 20th at 7:05pm and Danville on Sunday March 21st at 6:40pm. Fans can purchase tickets in person at the Summit Center or via phone at 636-530-PUCK.
