Cedar Rapids RoughRiders News Release
Cedar Rapids, Iowa- Cedar Rapids RoughRiders forward James Brannigan has been named the Let's Play Hockey/United States Hockey League Offensive Player of the Week.
Brannigan, 19, earned the honor after scoring three goals and picking up one assist for four points in the RoughRiders' victories over Tri-City and Lincoln last weekend.
"This is certainly a well deserved honor for James," said RoughRiders coach and general manager Mark Carlson. "It's great to see him play this well with this much determination at this time of the season."
Brannigan scored two goals last Friday as the RoughRiders scored a 6-3 home win over the league-leading Tri-City Storm. One night later, Brannigan assisted on the RoughRiders' first goal and scored an empty netter late in the third period as the Riders shutout the Lincoln Stars 4-0 at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena.
On the season, Brannigan (23-19-42) is the RoughRiders leading goal scorer and is tied for second in the USHL with six game winning goals. The Brooklyn, New York, native is currently in the midst of a four game point-scoring streak (4-2-6).
Brannigan has already committed to Colorado College. He will begin playing for the Tigers next season.
Brannigan and the RoughRiders (31-21-3, 65 points) are in second place in the USHL's East Division, five points behind the Chicago Steel. The Riders return to action with three home games this week. The Riders take on the Waterloo Black Hawks tomorrow night, battle the Green Bay Gamblers Friday evening and finish the week with a game against the Sioux Falls Stampede Saturday night. All three games start at 7:05.
Tickets for the RoughRiders' remaining home games are now on sale at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena ticket office. Tickets can be purchased over the phone at (319) 261-4625 or in person at the ice arena. The ticket office is open from noon to 5:00PM on weekdays and from noon through the end of the second period on game days. Ticket prices range from $8.00 to $17.00 including a 50-cent facility fee.
