
Eagles win 4-3 in shootout

Slavomir Tomko's goal for the Eagles with 28 seconds left in the 3rd period tied the score at 3 and allowed the Eagles to reach overtime and win via a shootout 4-3 before a crowd of 1,259 at the Summit Center on Friday night.
The Eagles trailed 2-0 in the 1st period on goals by Matt Ford (shorthanded) and Jim McKenzie before Justin Mercier (power-play) and Thomas Fortney (St. Louis, MO) tallied second period goals to tie the score at 2-2. McKenzie's second goal of the night came late in the period to give Sioux Falls a 3-2 lead.
The Eagles received goals from Fortney, Colin Vock and Corey Elkins in the shootout for the win, as the Eagles outscored the Stampede 3-1. Belleville, Illinois native Charlie Effinger stopped 21 of 24 shots for the win.
The Heartland Eagles return to the ice on Saturday night as they travel to Bensenville to face the Steel on Saturday evening at 7:00pm.
