KEARNEY – The Tri-City Storm of the United States Hockey League will be helping 27 elementary schools across the Tri-Cities celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday on Tuesday.

The StormÂ’s event, called the Dr. Seuss-a-thon, will be held on March 2 to celebrate the legendary Dr. SeussÂ’ 100th birthday. During the day-long event all five of the StormÂ’s front office staff will be accompanied by two Storm players and travel to various schools across the area. Each group will make 30-minute stops at the schools.

Throughout the day the Tri-City Storm will test studentsÂ’ knowledge with Dr. Seuss trivia, the Storm players will read a Dr. Seuss book to the school assemblies and sign autographs and take pictures. The Dr. Seuss-a-thon is in conjunction with the nation-wide Read Across America program for elementary schools.

“Dr. Suess’ birthday is a popular event in elementary schools across the country. We got a lot of requests from schools about that day and the Dr. Seuss-a-thon will allow us to involve as many students as possible,” said Anna Johnson, the Storm’s operations assistant. “We’re looking forward to helping make students aware of the importance of reading.”

The event will run from 8 a.m. through 1:30 p.m.
