The Storm picked up two of a possible six points this past weekend losing to Erie and Barrie before defeating the London Knights in a shootout on Sunday afternoon. In Erie the Storm jumped out to an early one goal lead before surrendering four unanswered to drop the contest 5-2. In a seesaw battle against Barrie on Friday night, the Storm came out on the losing end when Barrie tallied one late in the third and added an empty net insurance goal to take the 7-5 win. On Sunday,Connor Tresham and Adam Comrie scored for the Storm in the shootout and Matt Hoyle stopped an incredible 8 shooters as the Storm beat the Knights 6-5 picking up an important two points. With a record of 9-6-0-1 the Storm currently sit third in the Midwest Division with 19 points.

AMJ Player of the Week

For the third week in a row, the Guelph Storm announced that forward Taylor Beck is the AMJ Player of the Week for the week ending Sunday, November 1st.

Scoring eight points in three games (two goals and six assists), Taylor was the highest Storm point getter for the third consecutive week. Starting off in Erie with two assists on Wednesday, Taylor put up a second star effort leading the way with a goal and two assists against the Barrie Colts on Friday night at the Sleeman Centre. On Sunday in the Storm's 4-3 shootout victory, the Niagara Falls native was in on all three Storm goals, assisting on the first two and scoring the game tying goal with under two minutes left in the second. He was awarded with the third star of the game for his efforts.

Named the AMJ player of the week three weeks in a row, the Nashville Predators' 3rd round pick has accumulated 18 points in eight games and is currently on a 10 game point streak.

Beck moved up from 11th to 5th in league scoring this week and currently leads his team in all offensive categories. Scoring at more than a point per game pace (1.76), Taylor has 11 goals and 17 assists for 28 points in 16 games played. He leads the team in powerplay goals with five and is tied in shorthanded with one.

Next up the Storm host the Ottawa 67's at home on Friday night before heading to Owen Sound on Saturday and Kitchener on Sunday. Tickets are still available for Friday night's game and can be purchased online or by visiting or calling the Guelph Storm Box Office at 519-837-9690.

Remembrance week at the Storm

Prior to Sunday's game, the Colour Guard from Royal Canadian Legion Branch 234 Sir John McCrae Branch and the Guelph Pipe Band will conduct a brief ceremony honouring those that lost their lives serving Canada.

Sandlak Wins Academic Award

Storm rookie Carter Sandlak has been named the Midwest Division's OHL Academic Player of the Month for the month of October.

The Ontario Hockey League today announced the OHL Academic Players of the Month for October.

West Division - The OHL Academic Player of the Month for October in the West Division is left winger Garret Ross of the Saginaw Spirit. Ross, 17, a native of Dearborn Heights, Michigan is currently enrolled at Heritage High School in Saginaw. "Garret is carrying an 88% average in his classes which leads all Spirit players while maintaining a full course load," commented Spirit Assistant Coach Adam Mattson. Ross originally had a verbal commitment to Ferris State prior to joining the Spirit this season.

Midwest Division - The OHL Academic Player of the Month for October in the Midwest Division is left winger Carter Sandlak of the Guelph Storm. Sandlak, 16, a native of London, Ontario currently is a Grade 11 student at Our Lady of Lourdes in Guelph. "Carter is a joy to have in his class, a hard worker and the top of his class," commented Donna Rawbone, Academic Advisor for the Storm. Carter is carrying a full high school course load and was the Storm's first round selection in the 2009 OHL Priority Selection.

Central Division - The OHL Academic Player of the Month for October in the Central Division is defenseman Cameron Wind of the Brampton Battalion. Wind, 17, a native of Barrie, Ontario is a Grade 12 student at Turner Fenton Secondary School in Brampton. Battalion Academic Advisor Ted Blackburn had this to say about Cameron, "Although early in the semester, teachers are seeing excellent progress in Cameron's work. He is motivated, hard-working student who takes his school work seriously. Cameron's Environmental Geography teacher plans to use one of his assignments as an example for others to follow. To date, he has perfect attendance in all of his classes."

East Division - The OHL Academic Player of the Month for October in the East Division is defenseman Erik Gudbranson of the Kingston Frontenacs. Gudbranson, 17, a native of Orleans, Ontario, is currently attending Ecole Secondaire Mille-Iles in Kingston. "Erik is a very dedicated student with a realistic goal of achieving his goal of pursuing a business degree at university," commented Mike Hamilton, Academic Advisor for the Frontenacs. Gudbranson was the Frontenacs first round selection in the 2008 OHL Priority Selection and is expected to be a first round selection in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.

OHL Academic Highlights:

- OHL players successfully completed 97% of high school courses during the 2008-09 season.

- Of the 54 overage players that competed in the league during the 2008-09 season, 24 have signed professional hockey contracts while 30 have accessed their academic scholarships in 2009-10 at various institutions across North America.

- OHL teams contributed just under $2 million in 2008-09 towards scholarships for current and graduate players.

COMMUNITY DAY

Cineplex Entertainment, via Galaxy Cinemas Guelph, is pleased to host Starlight Community Day on Saturday, November 21, 2009 from 9:00 am to 11:30 am in support of Starlight Children's Foundation.

The morning will offer Guelph and area residents the opportunity to escape to Galaxy Cinemas Guelph and enjoy a great selection of free movies as well as specially discounted concession items at the concession stand. Concession pricing will include $2 for regular-size popcorn and $2 for a regular-size fountain drink, with all concession proceeds donated to the Starlight Children's Foundation. In addition to clowns and face painting, players from the Guelph Storm hockey club will be in attendance to sign autographs, assist at the box office and work on the floor as theatre ushers!

"Starlight Children's Foundation provides much needed assistance to children and families living with serious illnesses in communities across the country," said Pat Marshall, Vice President Communications and Investor Relations, Cineplex Entertainment. "We want to host a special morning filled with entertainment and fun that Guelph and area residents can come out and enjoy all while supporting a wonderful charity," said Marshall.

"We (the Storm) are extremely honored to be a part of this special event", Storm President Rick Hoyle said. "Being able to assist in helping make life easier for kids and their families is such a worthwhile cause and we hope all of our fans and their families will come out to show their support."

The Starlight Children's Foundation helps seriously ill children and their families cope with their pain, fear and isolation through entertainment, education and family activities.
