Ogden Raptors News Release
Great Falls Voyagers starter Dane Stone threw six shutout innings in a 4-1 win over the Ogden Raptors Thursday night at Centene Stadium.
Entering the game second in the Pioneer League in ERA at 1.93, Stone showed why he is one of the best pitchers in the league. The right-hander allowed just two hits and three walks with seven strikeouts.
The Voyagers scored their first run in the fourth. With one out, Patrick Palmeiro double to right field. After a single by Zach Stoner moved Palmeiro to third, Jackson Laumann struck out for the second out. Louie Lechich then hit a grounder to short that was bobbled by Kelvin Ramos, allowing Palmeiro to score and give the Voyagers the first run of the game.
In the fifth, Great Falls added another run. Chevy Clarke and Mason Robbins started the inning with consecutive walks. After Jake Peter grounded into a double play, it looked like the Raptors might get out of the inning. But, Zach Fisher delivered an RBI single to right to give the Voyagers a 2-0 lead.
The Raptors had a chance to tie the game in the seventh. Ivan Vela began the inning with a single to center, followed by a triple by Melvin Santana to make the score 2-1. However, strikeouts to Theo Alexander and Ramos and a flyout by Devan Ahart stranded Santana at third.
Great Falls added two insurance runs in the bottom of the seventh. With one out, Clarke singled, Robbins tripled, and Peter doubled to extend the Voyagers' lead to 4-1.
The Raptors will try to split the four-game series on Friday as Jeff Brigham makes his first professional start against Brandon Brennan. Game starts at 7:00 and can be heard on 97.5 The Zone.
