Great Falls Voyagers News Release
GREAT FALLS, Mont. (July 9, 2014) -The Great Falls Voyagers saw their three-game winning streak come to an end Wednesday night, falling 7-2 to the Ogden Raptors at Centene Stadium.
The Raptors (8-15) got their offense going early against Voyager starter Matt Ball (1-1), executing a double steal to score a run in the first inning against the righty.
Ogden then added three in the third, shortening Ball's night on the hill. After Devan Ahart tripled to start the frame, Julian Leon singled him home to double the Raptors edge. Ivan Vela then drove in two with a double later in the frame to make it 4-0.
Great Falls (13-10) went to the bullpen in the fourth, but it did not keep Ogden from adding to their advantage. Ahart doubled a run home, and then Colin Hering tripled in a run of his own before later coming around on a wild pitch.
The Voyager offense had a tough time getting going against Raptor pitching, failing to get on the board until the fifth. With the bases loaded and two out, Ethan Gross singled up the middle to plate Louie Lechich and Ryan Jones for the only two runs of the night for the hosts.
The rest of the contest was dominated by Raptor pitching. In relief, Jose De Leon (2-2) gave Ogden five innings, allowing just the two runs although both were unearned. The righty struck out seven and retired the final nine he faced.
Great Falls managed just four hits in all on the night, matching a season low they set back on June 21 against Billings. They also struck out 12 times, and as a club have struck out more than any other Pioneer League team in 2014.
The Voyagers and Raptors continue this series Thursday night at Centene Stadium. Great Falls will send righty Dane Stone (1-0, 1.93) to the mound, while the Raptors will counter with a righty of their own, Jeff Brigham (0-0, 0.00). First pitch is set for 7:00 and coverage will begin at 6:45 on 1400 AM KXGF and gfvoyagers.com.
