South Carolina Stingrays News Release

The Week That Was...

The South Carolina Stingrays hosted the Orlando Solar Bears last weekend at the North Charleston Coliseum and earned a week record of 1-0-1-0 and an overall record of 13-10-1-4. The Stingrays are currently on a five-game point streak (4-0-1-0) and are unbeaten in 10 of their last 11 contests (9-1-1-0).

The Stingrays and Solar Bears met for the third time this season on Saturday with the Bears slipping by in overtime, 3-2. Stingrays forward Cody Sylvester opened the scoring and rookie Derek DeBlois buried the game-tying tally early in the third period. The overtime loss snapped goaltender Jeff Jakaitis' six-game winning streak, but he remains unbeaten in regulation in his last eight games (6-0-1-1).

Entering the third period Saturday, the Stingrays trailed the Solar Bears 3-1 before defenseman Drew MacKenzie buried his first goal of the season and forward Patrick Gaul knotted up the contest two minutes later. In overtime, forward Wayne Simpson scored the game-winning tally to give the Stingrays a 4-3 decision. Goaltender Brandon Anderson picked up the win making 28 saves.
