South Carolina Stingrays News Release
North Charleston, SC South Carolina Stingrays Head Coach Jason Fitzsimmons announced today that the team has signed rookie forwards Dave Spina and Jeff Legue. Spina will make his professional debut after a four year career with the Boston College Eagles, while Legue spent his collegiate career with Ferris State.
"We were fortunate to sign three of the top rookies in the league a year ago in Tenute, Peverley and Ardelan," commented Fitzsimmons. "We hope to continue that success with the signing of these two talented forwards."
Spina had 28 points on 13 goals and 15 assists in 40 games as a senior with BC. He spent nine games with the Utah Grizzlies of the American Hockey League at the end of last year without registering a point. The 5'11- 185 lb forward from Mesa, AZ played with the US Junior National team before his collegiate career.
"Dave is a proven forward from one of the top programs in College Hockey," noted Fitzsimmons. "He should be able to step in as a rookie and make a significant impact on our team."
Legue (LUH-gwee) is a Cornwall, Ontario product. At 5'11" and 170lbs, Legue had 44 points in 37 games on 24 goals and 20 assists a year ago at Ferris State. He scored an impressive 67 goals in his four year career with the Bulldogs.
"Jeff has the ability to put the puck in the net," added Fitzsimmons. "He had over a point per game last season in College and should continue that success at the professional level."
The Stingrays will drop the puck on their 13th season of professional hockey in October. A variety of season ticket and group ticket packages are already on sale. For ticket information contact the Stingrays office at 744-2248 or log on to www.stingrayshockey.com.
