Everblades ink defenseman Curry to contract

ESTERO, FL - Florida Everblades president & general manager Craig Brush, along with head coach Gerry Fleming announced today that the team has signed defenseman Sean Curry to a contract for the 2005-06 season.

Curry, who was a member of the Everblades during part of the 2002-03 season, skated in 61 games with the Lowell Lock Monsters of the American Hockey League last season. The 23-year-old notched nine points (2g, 7a) and amassed 103 penalty minutes with the Lock Monsters during the 2004-05 campaign.

"After spending the past 2 ½ years in Lowell we welcome Sean back." Said Fleming. "We are very familiar with Sean and his abilities. He's a big, strong, physical defenseman who makes a good first pass out of the zone, and will bring some good size to our blue line."

Curry's first full season in the AHL came in 2003-04 when he played in 74 games with Lowell. That season, the Burnsville, Minnesota native tallied a goal and seven assists, and collected 66 PIM. Curry's first professional season came in 2002-03 when he debuted with the Everblades, scoring seven points (1g, 6a) in 32 games. Midway through that season he earned a call-up to Lowell, where he finished with two assists in 35 games.

Prior to turning pro, the former 7th round draft pick by the Carolina Hurricanes in 2001 spent two seasons at the junior level with in the Western Hockey League. Curry split the 2001-02 season between Tri-City, notching 12 points in 36 games, and Medicine Hat, where in 24 games he notched 17 points. In 2000-01 Curry collected 17 points in 72 games with Tri-City.

Curry becomes the sixth player overall, and third defenseman signed by the Everblades this off-season.
