Phoenix RoadRunners News Release

PHOENIX, Ariz. - The Phoenix RoadRunners of the ECHL have agreed to terms with forwards Cory Pecker and B.J. Gaustad on contracts for the upcoming 2005-06 season. Per club policy, terms of each deal were not disclosed.

Pecker, 24, has spent the majority of his three-year professional career in the American Hockey League as a member of the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks. The Montreal, Que. native tallied five goals and 14 points in 61 AHL games in 2004-05 split between Cincinnati and the Manitoba Moose. He also appeared in three games with the San Diego Gulls. A former sixth round draft choice of the Calgary Flames at the 1999 NHL Entry Draft, Pecker enjoyed a prolific junior career in the Ontario Hockey League where he averaged well over a point a game and was named the league's Overage Player of the Year after leading the Erie Otters to the 2002 OHL Championship. Pecker has recorded 35 goals and 72 points in 209 professional games.

"Cory is probably one of our biggest signings to date," said RoadRunners General Manager and Head Coach Ron Filion. "He is a tremendously gifted player who possesses the offensive skills to be a real force in this league."

Gaustad, 26, has captured back-to-back Colonial Cup Championships while skating for the Muskegon Fury of the United Hockey League for the past two seasons. A native of Portland, Ore., Gaustad posted career-highs in 2004-05 with 29 goals and 52 points in 77 games while finishing with the UHL's third highest plus-minus ratio of plus-36. He has netted 44 goals and 81 points in 145 games.

"B.J. enjoyed a breakout season last year in the UHL, and now he's ready to take his game to the next level," said Filion. "With two championship rings, he'll also be a great influence in our locker room."

The additions of Pecker and Gaustad give the RoadRunners 17 players under contract with 27 days remaining until the opening of training camp.

RoadRunners professional hockey returns to downtown Phoenix at 7PM on Saturday, October 22 when the Utah Grizzlies visit America West Arena in the ECHL season opener for both teams. Season tickets for all 36 home games are on sale now and start as low as $252. For more information call (602) 462-GOAL, or visit www.phxroadrunners.com.
