Stingrays Score Four in Third Period; Extend Winning Streak with 5-2 Triumph over Orlando

Orlando, FL - Forwards Braden Pimm and Rob Ricci each scored two goals and the South Carolina Stingrays (26-18-1-6) fired a season-high 48 shots on goal to defeat the Orlando Solar Bears (24-20-3-0) 5-2 at the Amway Center Wednesday evening and send the winning streak to a season-high eight games.

Former Stingray and Solar Bears forward Stefan Della Rovere kicked off the scoring 5:19 into the contest beating Stingrays goaltender Adam Morrison (W, 27 saves on 29) over the right pad. With 1:24 remaining, Ricci tied the contest on the power play knocking a rebound past Solar Bears netminder Garret Sparks (L, 43 saves on 47) from forwards Rob Bellamy and Wayne Simpson.

Pimm put the Stingrays ahead 33 seconds into third period firing a shot over the glove of Sparks for his team-leading 17 goal of the season. Forward Derek DeBlois picked up the lone assist. At 6:16, Bellamy made it 3-1, snapping a 34-game goalless streak, tapping in a pass from forward Joe Devin. Simpson chipped in the second assist. Moments later, the Solar Bears pulled the game back within one as forward Johnny McInnis redirected a shot from defenseman Max Nicasto past Morrison at 8:10.

As the clock ticked down, Ricci sealed the victory and reclaimed a two-goal cushion at 15:48 with help from forward Patrick Gaul. Pimm completed the game scoring with an empty-net marker with 34 seconds remaining from forward Andrew Rowe. The Stingrays finished the contest 1-for-3 on the power play while the Soar Bears did not receive a man advantage.
