Evansville IceMen News Release

EVANSVILLE, Ind.- In his first game back with the Evansville IceMen, presented by Coors Light, Branden Komm shut out the Cincinnati Cyclones for over two periods. However, the Cyclones Sam Brittain denied all 15 IceMen shots he faced to help Cincinnati come away with a 2-0 win.

Signed by the IceMen earlier in the day, Komm made 29 saves against Cincinnati. The rookie netminder played with the Cyclones for the last month until being waived on Tuesday. Evansville claimed him off waivers on Wednesday and started him against his former team.

Despite being outshot 11-4 in the opening period, the IceMen entered the first intermission in a scoreless tie. Komm made two highlight reel saves in the first frame.

On the first, Cincinnati charged at Komm with a 2-on-0 breakaway. Komm slid cross crease with the pass and made a glove save. Later in the first period, Cincinnati zipped a cross-ice feed, Komm dove back across the crease to knock the puck away.

Komm came up with another five saves in the second as the IceMen defense clamped down on the Cyclones. Cincinnati surrendered seven shots in the middle frame, but Brittain kept them all out of the back of the net.

In the third period, Joe Basaraba tucked in the rebound on a Nick Wheeler shot to give the Cyclones a 1-0. Cincinnati added a little insurance when Brian Nugent scored on a breakaway feed from Josh Shalla.

Brittain made 15 saves to clinch his third shutout against the IceMen this season. On the Brightside, the IceMen had Danny Hobbs, Bo Dirscoll, and, Dan Sova all returned from injury for Evansville.

The IceMen will make their first trip to Michigan this season as they continue their season long seven-game road trip with a battle against the Kalamazoo Wings on Saturday night. Game time is set for 6:30 p.m. Central time. Fans can enjoy that game live at Bar Louie, the Official Watch Party Destination of the Evansville IceMen. Saturday's game will also be available on ESPN Evansville 105.3, ESPNevansville.com and ECHL TV.
