Chelios and Armstrong Join K-Wings

KALAMAZOO- Hours before the Kalamazoo Wings hit the ice to start a four-game home stand the team's roster will have a small overhaul.

The K-Wings are expected to add defensemen Jake Chelios and Travis Armstrong. Jake who is the youngest son of NHL Hall of Famer Chris Chelios, will make his K-Wings debut this evening. Chelios was reassigned to the K-Wings from the Chicago Wolves. In his first full season of professional hockey, Chelios has posted 14 points (1 goal, 13 assists) in 32 games this season with the Wolves. After completing his collegiate career, Chelios began his pro career at the end of last season with the Wolves and the Toledo Walleye. Chelios recorded two points (1 goal, 1 assist) in seven games last year with the Walleye and one assist in four contests with the Wolves.

A four-year standout at Michigan State University, Chelios' best season with the Spartans was his senior campaign, where he amassed 21 points (2 goals, 19 assists) in 36 games. Chelios was also selected as the recipient of the MSU's Dr. John Downs Most Outstanding Defensive Player Award.

Armstrong, who has agreed to an amateur tryout agreement, pending league approval, will join the K-Wings after completing his Senior season at Finlandia University. A four-year standout, Armstrong posted 44 points (13 goals, 31 assists) in 90 games with the Lions. During the 2011-12 season, Armstrong was named to the MCHA All-Freshmen Team. Armstrong was the Lions team Captain last season. Prior to college, Armstrong played three seasons of junior hockey in the CJHL with the Kemptville 73s.

In separate transactions, defenseman Jeremie Blain has been reassigned by the Vancouver Canucks to the Utica Comets. Blain's reassignment to Utica marks the 21st time this season that a member of the K-Wings has been either called-up or loaned to an AHL team.

The K-Wings have also placed forward Eric Kattelus and defenseman Ildar Telyakov on the reserve list.

The K-Wings will return home tonight, Wednesday, February 18th for a 7 p.m. face-off versus the Gwinnett Gladiators on Wacky Wednesday featuring 10-cent hot dogs. Any fan that has a ticket to the K-Wings game for this evening can also enjoy Wednesday's 4 p.m. draw at the U.S. Curling Nationals for FREE.

On Friday, February 20th, the K-Wings will host the Reading Royals at 7:30 p.m. during World Record/Social Media Night presented by the U.S. Army. During the first period intermission, the U.S. Army will host the largest swearing-in ceremony in southwest Michigan. This Friday will also be a 3, 2, 1 Countdown to Fun! with $3 beer, $2 Pepsi Products and $1 hot dogs presented by Winter Sausage hot dogs and Harding's Friendly Markets. Any fan that has a ticket to the K-Wings game for February 20th can also enjoy Friday's 4 p.m. draw at the U.S. Curling Nationals for FREE.

A tradition will continue on Saturday, February 21st, as the K-Wings host the Evansville IceMen during the 15th Annual Pink Ice Game and the 4th Annual Susan G. Komen Night presented by Eaton Corporation. The K-Wings will don special Susan G. Komen jerseys that will be auctioned off during the game. The K-Wings will honor breast cancer survivors during a pregame ceremony.

The K-Wings will conclude the week on Sunday, February 22nd with a 3 p.m. faceoff versus the Wheeling Nailers during Family Hockey Day in the 'ZOO. The first 500 kids (ages 12 and under) will eat FREE and receive either a Princess Tiara or a Pirate's Hat and Eye Patch. Sunday will be Princesses, Pirates and Knights Day. A Snow Princess and Rapunzel will be interacting with children during pregame and the first period. Family's can also make their experience special by visiting the face-painters and taking a snap shot at the FREE photo booth. Following the game the K-Wings will host a post game skate with the players, presented by United Healthcare (skate rental if needed is $3).
