Stingrays Receive Trio from Hershey; Add Four More to Training Camp Roster

North Charleston, SC - The South Carolina Stingrays and Head Coach/Director of Hockey Operations Cail MacLean announced today that defenseman Dustin Stevenson, forward Jake Hauswirth and goaltender Jared DeMichiel have been assigned to the team by the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League. The Stingrays also announced that forward David deKastrozza has been sent to the team from the Bears and forwards Tommy Goebel, Maxime Lacroix and defenseman Jeff Caister joined the team from the Rochester Americans of the AHL.

Stevenson, 21, comes to the Stingrays after spending four seasons with the La Ronge Ice Wolves of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) earning 28 goals and 71 assists for 99 points in 163 games. The Gull Lake, SK native was named SJHL Player of the Year after netting 47 points (11g, 36a) and 134 penalty minutes in 56 games during the 2009-10 season. Signed by the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League as a free agent, the 6-foot-5, 220 pound Stevenson finished third among defensemen in scoring and tied for eighth in the league in penalty minutes.

Hauswirth, 21, returns to the Stingrays after scoring 17 goals and 27 assists for 44 points in 62 games during his rookie campaign. Prior to turning pro, the Merrill, Wisconsin native skated two years with the Omaha Lancers of the USHL and the 06-07 season with the Marquette Rangers of the NAHL. While with the Lancers, Hauswirth tallied 75 points (41g, 34a) in 115 games. The 6-foot-5, 210-pound forward is a member of the 2008 USHL Omaha championship team.

DeMichiel, 25, enters his first professional season after playing for four years at the Rochester Institute of Technology going 41-19-2 with a 2.36 goals-against average and a .908 save percentage in 66 games. During his senior season, the Avon, CT native had a career-best 27-10-1 record with a 2.09 GAA and a .921 save percentage while leading the Tigers to the NCAA Frozen Four for the first time in school history. During the tournament, the 6-foot-1, 180-pound goaltender earned the NCAA East Region Most Outstanding Player award.

The Stingrays training camp begins tomorrow, Wednesday, October 6 at 10:00 a.m. and will run through Thursday, October 14. All on-ice sessions will take place at the Carolina Ice Palace in North Charleston.

The Stingrays drop the puck on their 18th season of hockey in the Low Country on Friday, October 22 against the Gwinnett Gladiators at 7:35 p.m. at the Arena at Gwinnett Center. Opening Weekend is set for Friday, November 5, Saturday, November 6 and Sunday, November 7 against the Florida Everblades at 7:05 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. at North Charleston Coliseum.
