Florida Everblades News Release

ESTERO, FL - Florida Everblades President and General Manager Craig Brush announced today that long-time Everblade Ernie Hartlieb has announced his retirement from hockey. He has joined Fifth Third Securities (South Florida) as a Licensed Sales Assistant.

Hartlieb announced his retirement tonight at the charity Everblades Alumni Game. He hangs up his skates after 10 years of professional hockey, the final six of which were primarily with the Everblades. The 31-year-old closes out his career as the Everblades all-time leader in games played with 341 and ranks among the top in all-time Everblades history in points (257 - 3rd), assists (171 - 3rd) goals (86 - 5th) and power play goals (33 - T-1st).

"The whole Everblades family wants to wish Ernie all the best with this exciting new chapter of his life," Brush said. "We especially want to thank him for everything he has done for this organization both on and off the ice."

A versatile player that played both offense and defense throughout his career, Hartlieb first suited up for the Everblades during the 2004-05 campaign playing in 15 regular season games, but was instrumental in helping the Everblades to their second consecutive Kelly Cup Finals by posting eight points in 14 post-season games in 2005.

The following season the Warren, Michigan native earned a spot in the 2006 ECHL All-Star Game and finished the 2005-06 campaign with 56 points in 55 games. Hartlieb's best season in the Blue and Green came in 2007-08 when he collected 65 points (24g, 41a) in 72 games. After his initial season with the Everblades, Hartlieb averaged 49 points a year over the last five seasons in Florida.

"I'd like to thank all the Everblades fans and everyone in the Everblades organization," said Hartlieb. "I can't think of a better place to close out my career. Everyone from Mr. & Mrs. Brush, the front office personnel to the arena game-day staff and especially the fans have all been like family to me. I'm excited about my new opportunity but will certainly miss being on the ice."

Hartlieb is a Registered General Securities Representative (Series 7) and holds his insurance license.

"Ernie is a talented individual with natural teamwork and leadership abilities," said David Call, president and CEO of Fifth Third Bank (South Florida). "He is a respected figure whose core values are aligned with ours and we are excited that he has chosen to join Fifth Third in his new opportunity."

During the course of his career, which began in 2000-01 after wrapping up a four-year collegiate career at Miami (OH) University, Hartlieb played a total of 607 games notching 411 points (140g, 271a) and 541 penalty minutes. In addition to skating with the Everblades in his career, Hartlieb also saw action in the ECHL with the Dayton Bombers and Arkansas RiverBlades and skated in the American Hockey League with the Worcester Ice Cats, Lowell Lock Monsters, Grand Rapids Griffins and Rochester Americans.
