
Stingrays Open 2014 Kelly Cup Playoffs against the Wheeling Nailers

North Charleston, S.C. - The South Carolina Stingrays battle the Wheeling Nailers in the best-of-seven Eastern Conference Quarterfinals, the opening round of the 2014 Kelly Cup Playoffs, the team announced today.
The series features a 2-3-2 format and begins at the North Charleston Coliseum with Game 1 on Friday, April 18 at 7:05 p.m. and Game 2 on Saturday, April 19 at 7:05 p.m. The two teams move to WesBanco Arena in Wheeling, West Virginia for Game 3 on Wednesday, April 23 and Game 4 on Friday, April 25 at 7:00 p.m. Game 5 (if necessary) will take place on Saturday, April 26 at 7:00 p.m. The series moves back to the Coliseum for Game 6 (if necessary) and Game 7 (if necessary) on Tuesday, April 29 and Wednesday, April 30 at 7:05 p.m.
The Stingrays finished the 2013-14 regular-season series against the Nailers with a 1-0-0-0 record, winning 3-0 on December 28 at the Coliseum, and are 9-8-1 all-time. This is the second postseason series between the Stingrays and Nailers. The two teams collided in the 2011 Eastern Conference Quarterfinals with the Nailers taking the best-of-five series 3-1.
The 2014 Kelly Cup Playoffs is the 20 postseason appearance for the Stingrays, an ECHL record, seventh for the Nailers and 14 for the Nailers organization including the Wheeling Thunderbirds (1992-96) and Carolina/Winston-Salem Thunderbirds (1988-92). All-time, the Stingrays have 84 postseason wins (second in ECHL history), 77 losses (ECHL record) in 161 games (ECHL record). The Nailers are 28-32 and 59-53 including the Wheeling Thunderbirds and Carolina/Winston-Salem.
