Orlando Earns Home Ice Advantage in First Round of Playoffs

Orlando, FL - F Wade MacLeod scored two goals and D Eric Baier added three assists to lead the Orlando Solar Bears to a 5-4 victory over the Greenville Road Warriors in the 2013-14 regular season finale. The win lifted the Solar Bears to 91 points (43-24-2-3) and clinched the home ice advantage for Orlando in the Kelly Cup Quarterfinals Series vs. the Cincinnati Cyclones which that begins this week at the Amway Center, presented by Walgreens.

Dates and times for the series and ticket information will be announced later tonight.

T he Solar Bears took the lead at 5:07 of the first period on a goal by Ian Slater. Greenville's Andrew Rowe tied it up at 7:05 of the first. Taylor Matson's 18 th goal of the season put Orlando ahead 2-1 at 13:20. The first period scoring closed when Greenville's Josh Nicholls tied it at 18:52.

The Solar Bears scored the next three goals with Mike Ullrich put the Bears up 3-2 at 1:07 of the second period. Then Wade MacLeod scored twice (at 9:04 of the second period and 1:15 of the third period), giving the Solar Bears a 5-2 lead. Greenville scored two unanswered goals (Marc-Olivier Vallerand at 2:57 of the third and Brad Cole at 8:58). The Solar Bears defense tightened up and shut out Greenville the remainder of the third period. Solar Bears goaltender Maxime Clermont is 3-0-1 in his last 4 starts, making 35 saves.
