
Stingrays Erase Two Deficits But Fall 3-2 To Everblades

Estero, FL -The South Carolina Stingrays came back to tie the game twice, but fell to the Florida Everblades 3-2 Wednesday night at Germain Arena.
Florida (3-2-1-0) started the scoring as Ernie Hartlieb buried a lose puck in front on Stingrays goaltender Braden Holtby at 9:58 of the first period. Hartlieb's even-strength marker was helped along by Brandon Buck and Kevin Backer. Florida skated to the first intermission with their one-goal lead intact.
The Stingrays (2-2-1-1) retaliated 46 seconds into the second period when Keith Johnson tapped home a prefect pass from Nikita Kashirsky. Dylan Yeo received the second assist on Johnson's third goal of the season. The Everblades regained the lead six minutes later as Mathieu Roy knocked in a centering pass from Rob Hennigar and Milan Gajic at 6:47. Stingrays forward Matt Scherer tied the contest at two beating Everblades goaltender Mike Morrison at 16:11. Jake Hauswirth created the play at the bottom of the near-side faceoff circle, but fanned on his initial shot. Scherer scooped up the loose puck and knocked home his second goal of the season. Yeo earned the second assist. The tie remained as the buzzer sounded to end the second.
The third period started as a neutral zone battle between the two teams, but the Everblades prevailed at 14:29 with a goal from Buck and assisted by Hennigar. Buck's third goal of the year proved to be the game-winning goal at the end of regulation. Holtby finished the night stopping 32 of 35 Florida shots. Morrison earned the victory pushing aside 30 Stingrays opportunities on 32 shots.
The Stingrays square off against the Florida Everblades Friday night at 7:30 p.m. at Germain Arena. Friday's contest is the second game of a three game series against Florida.
