
Blades Edge Stingrays 3-2

Estero, FL - The Florida Everblades hosted the defending Kelly Cup Champion, South Carolina Stingrays Wednesday night. This was the first of a three-game series between the two South division rivals. Blades center Rob Hennigar and left winger Brandon Buck each had two points (1g-1a) and goaltender Mike Morrison finished with 30 saves in a 3-2 victory. Ernie Hartlieb extended his goal scoring streak to two games, and Milan Gajic also extended his point scoring streak to three games, adding an assist tonight.
The Florida Everblades opened the scoring at 10:02 of the first stanza courtesy of Blades right winger Ernie Hartlieb to go up 1-0. Brandon Buck and Kevin Baker picked up the assists on Hartlieb's second goal of the season. The rest of the period remained scoreless after each team had multiple chances. The Stingrays out shot the Everblades 11-10, and the Blades were 0-2 on the power-play.
The Blades lead didn't last long into the second stanza, as Stingrays forward Keith Johnson scored 46 seconds into the second period. Johnson scored his third goal of the season, evening the game at 1-1.
Blades left winger Mathieu Roy put his team back in the lead at 6:47, scoring his first marker of the season. Center Rob Hennigar fed the puck cross ice to Roy for the tip-in goal giving the Blades a 2-1 lead.
Then at 16:11, South Carolina forward Matt Scherer hit the back of the net to even the score at 2-2.
The Everblades out shot the Stingrays 13-11 and going into the third with a slight lead in shots, 23-22.
Both teams entered the final stanza deadlocked at 2-2. Everblades goaltender Mike Morrison kept the Stingrays from taking the lead after stopping a breakaway. Left winger Brandon Buck broke the tie at 14:29 with a one-timer in the slot, putting the Blades up 3-2. The Everblades were able to hang onto the lead late and emerge victorious 3-2.
