
Stingrays Collect 1,329 Teddy Bears In 3-1 Win Over Elmira

North Charleston, SC -The South Carolina Stingrays (16-6-1-3) defeated the Elmira Jackals (10-9-2-1) 3-1 Sunday night in the Stingrays' annual Teddy Bear Toss at North Charleston Coliseum. Stingrays forward Matt Fornataro netted a pair of goals and the Stingrays collected 1,329 stuffed animals in the victory. With the win, the Stingrays pushed their winning streak to a season-high seven games.
After a scoreless first period, Stingrays forward Keith Johnson lit the lamp with a short-handed goal at 7:06 from Trent Campbell and Johann Kroll to send the teddy bears out on the ice. After clearing the ice, the Jackals responded nine seconds later to tie the contest at one with a power-play tally from Mat Robinson at 7:15 from Olivier Proulx.
The Stingrays regained the lead at 1:33 of the third period with a shot from Matt Fornataro beating Jackals goaltender Pier-Olivier Pelletier between the legs. Forwards Trevor Bruess and Jake Hauswirth recorded the assists. Fornataro gave the Stingrays a two-goal lead at 4:15 on the power play knocking home a pass from Rob Ricci beating Pelletier low glove-side. Hauswirth earned the second assist. Trailing by two, the Jackals were awarded a penalty shot late in the third period after the Stingrays knocked the net out of position. Stingrays goaltender Todd Ford denied Chris Korchinski to preserve the two-goal lead and the victory. Ford finished the night stopping 34 of 35 Jackals shots while Pelletier falls in his ECHL debut stopping 18 of 21 Stingrays chances. South Carolina ended the contest 1-for-6 on the power play while the Jackals went 1-for-4.
