South Carolina Stingrays News Release

Charlotte, NC - Rory Rawlyk scored his first goal as a member of the South Carolina Stingrays to tie the game at two in the third period, but dropped a 3-2 decision in overtime against the Charlotte Checkers at Charlotte Bobcats Arena.

"I thought we did a lot of good things tonight," said Head Coach Jared Bednar. "But Charlotte caught us on the rush and [Mark] Lee was able to finish it."

In the first period neither team had any good chances and it was scoreless after 20 minutes of play. The second period was a different story as Ryan Constant got on the board at 4:50 making it a 1-0 game in favor of the Checkers. Travis Morin responded only two and a half minutes later when he got his team leading 26th goal of the season from Chris Chaput and Nate Kiser at 7:26.

The Rays entered the third period down by a goal and it wasn't until 11:24 that Rawlyk got his first goal of the season to tie the game up at two, with the assists going to Andrew Andricopoulos and Chaput.

Tied up at two the game went to overtime where Mark Lee would get his 12th goal of the year at 3:03 to win the game for the Charlotte Checkers.

The winning goaltender was Mike Ayers who stopped 33 of the 35 shots that he faced. The losing goaltender was Davis Parley who stopped 29 of the 32 shots he faced. The Rays went 0-2 on the power play while killing off all five short handed situations they faced.

The Rays are back in action Saturday night when they travel to Augusta, GA to take on the Lynx. Game time will be at 7:05 P.M.
