Checkers Strike In Overtime Against Stingrays, Win 3-2

Charlotte, N.C. - The Charlotte Checkers needed an extra session to defeat the South Carolina Stingrays by a score of 3-2.

The Checkers got on the board first after Stingrays goaltender, Davis Parley turned aside a shot by Lee Falardeau, the rebound was blasted in by Checkers defenseman, Ryan Constant at 4:50. South Carolina tied the contest after a loose puck in front of Checkers netminder, Mike Ayers was slammed home by Travis Morin at 7:26. This tied the game at 1-1. Charlotte would recapture their one goal advantage when Parley couldn't smoother a puck in front of the crease. Jeff Kyrzakos skated to the goal mouth and slid the puck past the goalie at 10:52.

In the third period, Stingrays blueliner, Rory Rawlyk scored on a third rebound chance off the pads of Mike Ayers at 11:24. Charlotte would follow up with several great chances to end the game before overtime, but they couldn't find a way to beat Parley.

During the extra session, Mark Lee carried the puck coast-to-coast and wristed a shot over the glove of Parley scoring the game winner at 3:03.

Notes: Ayers turned aside 33 of 35 shots while Parley stopped 29 of 32...Neither team scored on the power play. Charlotte had five chances and South Carolina had two.

The Checkers are in their 15th season of play as a member of the ECHL. Their next home game takes place on Feb. 23 against the Florida Everblades. In the team's 14-year history, the Checkers have made the playoffs 10 times including three consecutive playoff appearances to date.
