Grizzlies Beat Phoenix 5-4 In Overtime

Phoenix, Arizona - James Sanford scored a power-play goal 53 seconds into overtime as the Utah Grizzlies (28-22-0-5) defeated the Phoenix RoadRunners 5-4 Thursday night at US Airways Center.

The Game went back and forth throughout with Utah trailing by one goal three times and never leading by more than one in two separate occasions including the final score.

Trailing 1-0 in the first, Rob Sirianni scored his seventh goal of the year on a penalty-shot.

In the second, Utah scored three of the periods four goals, including two on the power-play to take a 4-3 lead into the second intermission. Garett Bembridge (8), Olivier Labelle (22) and then again Sirianni scored for Utah in the second period.

Phoenix tied the game 5:31 into the third at four with a Brett Angel scoring. The Grizzlies were given their eighth power-play of the game with just 28 seconds left in regulation and that carried into overtime setting up Sanford's game-winner on a shot from the slot. Ryan Kinasewich and Tyler Haskins picked up assists on the game-winning goal.

Utah went 3-8 on the power-play and 1-2 on the penalty-kill. Four of Utah's five goals in the game came as a result of Phoenix penalties.

Former RoadRunners goaltender Mike Mole stopped 35 of 39 shots in the game as he improved to 17-10-0-4 for Utah.

Utah and the RoadRunners will complete their ten-game season series Saturday at US Airways Center. Face-off is scheduled for 7:11 p.m.

The Grizzlies return home Wednesday, March 5 to host Fresno at the E-Center. All Utah home games start at 7:05 p.m.
