Goaltender Briggs Gets Another Call Up To The AHL

BOISE, Idaho- Idaho Steelheads' goaltender Kellen Briggs received a call up to the Houston Aeros of the American Hockey League today. Houston is the AHL affiliate of the Minnesota Wild of the National Hockey League and the Texas Wildcatters of the ECHL.

The call up is the second for the 24-year-old rookie netminder. On Jan. 15, 2008, he received a call up from the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League. Rockford is the AHL affiliate to the NHL's Chicago Blackhawks and ECHL's Pensacola Ice Pilots.

Briggs, 5-11 and 185-pounds, has appeared in 25 games with Idaho this season and compiled a 15-8-1 record, and a 2.22 goals-against average and .927 save percentage with two shutouts. Briggs was named to the All-Star Game National Conference roster played in Stockton in Jan. where he made 10 second period saves (1 GA) to help the National Conference to a 10-7 w in over the American Conference in the 2008 All-Star Game. He was named RBK Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week for Nov. 19-25 and runner up for Jan. 7-13.

With numerous awards from the University of Minnesota, he ended his career with 84 wins and a school record 13 shutouts.

The Steelheads moved to within one point of the West Division's Victoria Salmon Kings last night after a 3-2 victory north of the border. The two teams continue the three-game series with games Friday and Saturday in Victoria.
