Stingers Remain Red Hot with Seventh Consecutive Victory, Offense Again Shines in 12-1 Win Over Border Cats
August 9, 2023 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Willmar Stingers News Release
WILLMAR, MN.- The Willmar Stingers again scored in double figures, defeating the Thunder Bay Border Cats 12-1 on a day where even more league records were broken on Wednesday.
MinnWest Technology Campus Player of the Game Sean Rimmer wasted no time in showcasing his power as he blasted a two-run homer to get the Stingers on the board.
Jack Hines would multiply the lead by two in the fourth with a double that scored a pair of runs.
Later in the inning, both Andrew Sojka and Stone Miyao would bring in another with a single to get the Stingers up 6-0.
Willmar made history in the fifth however as after Aidan Byrne stole second base for the third steal of the game, he set a new Northwoods League stolen base record with 236 on the season.
After Byrne got on second, Nick Poss would drive him in with a single to extend the lead.
The sixth saw more of the same as singles from Kevin Fitzer and Rimmer brought in a combined three more runs and a wild pitch added run number eleven.
Thunder Bay was able to get on the board in the seventh with a bases loaded walk.
Hemponix Relief Pitcher of the Game Aaron Ragat made sure that was all the Border Cats would muster as he would then record a strikeout to strand the bases loaded and pitch a scoreless eighth inning.
The Stingers secured more insurance in the bottom part of the eighth with Rimmer going deep for the second time of the night.
That would be more than enough for J.D. Hennen to seal things up in the ninth with the Stingers on top.
Willmar gets set to play its final regular season home game of 2023 facing the Border Cats on Thursday.
